    Kiwanis Club awards $20,000 in scholarships to local students

    Atascadero Kiwanis awarded scholarships totaling over $20,000.

    June news from the Atascadero Kiwanis Club:

    – Atascadero Kiwanis awarded scholarships totaling over $20,000 on May 22 and May 23. Albert Almodova and Brent Wingett presented scholarships at Atascadero High School. Tyler Kreider, Key Club President, received the Albert Almodova Key Club Community Service Scholarship.

    President Cyndi Workman and Pam Contreras presented scholarships at Paloma Creek High School on May 22. The Scholarship Committee, chaired by Sandy Edmunson, was thanked for their efforts.

    AHS Show Choir performs at Kiwanis meeting

    The Atascadero High School Show Choir performed at the general Kiwanis meeting on May 23. The choir thanked Kiwanis for allowing them to use Kiwanis Hall for a dinner and silent auction, which helped raise funds for their Disneyland performance. The choir is directed by Carrie Jones.

    Kiwanis Movie Night raises funds

    Brian Atwell arranged a movie night at Colony Theaters on May 22 for the Aktion Club, Kiwanians, and guests. The event raised over $1,000 to support the Aktion Club. Attendees watched “A League of Their Own,” with insights provided by the niece of a professional ballplayer featured in the film. A $500 check from the Aktion Club was presented to the Atascadero Police K9 Foundation.

    Kiwanians support community events

    Kiwanians volunteered at various community events, including pancake breakfasts. Luther Johnson, Susan Bumbaca, and Audrey Hooper were pictured serving hotdogs, drinks, and chips at the Faces of Freedom Memorial Day event.

    AHS senior breakfast

    Atascadero graduating seniors were treated to breakfast by Kiwanians on June 4. Seniors enjoyed fruit, eggs, and sausage.

    Winemaker dinner silent auction item

    A group of dedicated Kiwanians, Kevin, Rex, Bob, and Jeff got together to split a cord of oak that will be a silent auction item at the Winemaker Dinner.
