Nothing says summertime like being on the water and getting some outdoor exercise, but not everyone is lucky enough to live on a lake. SweetWater Yoga in Clarklake, Michigan offers an opportunity to do both. Picture yourself doing an hour yoga class in their floating studio on Clark Lake while crystal clear water lies beneath you and an open sky is above. Talk about an ideal Zen experience!
Sally Lyons opened SweetWater Yoga in 2013. She is a certified yoga and paddleboard instructor. Sally knows firsthand Clark Lake is a place where dreams come true. A Toledo native, she summered at Clark Lake as a kid and built sandcastles with a neighborhood boy that wound up being her husband! They have two children aged 4 and almost 2 and happily reside on the same lake that they met.
“Paddle boarding is intimidating to some,” Sally told me, “especially while practicing yoga poses. I am mindful of that and want people to be comfortable. If you are a yogi or completely new to yoga or paddle boarding, we welcome you and tailor our classes to accommodate all fitness levels. We want to give our students a great experience!” Sally told me.
After the past year of chaos, paddle board yoga is a great chance to do light meditation, breath work, and get in touch with nature. Take the time for yourself to unwind and rejuvenate your soul.
SweetWater Yoga offers classes throughout the summer on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10 AM and Thursday evenings at 6:30. On July 24th, Sally is guiding a moonlight paddle event beginning at 8:30. Glide over the water and under the stars for a magical, unforgettable night! Check out their FaceBook page to book find out about pop-up events and added classes. The slots fill up quickly, so be sure to schedule in advance.
SweetWater Yoga is available for private classes. Looking to make your next get-together extra amazing? SweetWater Yoga class is a unique way to kick off a bachelorette party, girls’ night out, or celebrate a birthday with friends. SweetWater Yoga will travel to area lakes for private classes if an easy in-and-out area is accessible to launch the paddle boards.
Sally and her staff conscientiously sanitize all of their boards after each class, making SweetWater Yoga classes the perfect way to have fun and stay safe at the same time. All students and their boards are anchored far enough away from each other to avoid collisions, making social distancing easy!
“I am honored to provide yoga in a beautiful environment where people can feel at ease,” Sally said.
Sally provides the paddle boards and an anchor. The classes meet across the street from the Beach Bar at 1354 Eagle Point Road in Clarklake, Michigan. The location is ideal to grab a bite to eat after class or get an ice cream at the neighboring shop.
