Iowa Governor Sends Support to Texas Governor Greg Abbott on the Border Crisis

As May ended, another state joined Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s call to support the border crisis. For the past two years, Governor Abbott has been managing the border crisis as migrants and the spread of fentanyl cross the southern border between Texas and Mexico. He has asked for more support from the Biden administration, but little direct assistance has come from the Whtie House.

So last month, Governor Abbott put out a call to fellow governors. From this, 24 Republican governors voiced their support for the border crisis.

Then 10 governors flew to Austin where Governor Abbott and key personnel provided more details on the border crisis.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was one of the first to respond as he sent military personnel and equipment.

Then other states began to follow and show their support.

Now, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will send 100 military personnel to Texas in August. Then in September, Iowa will send Department of Public Safety Officer to Texas. Reynolds was one of the 10 governors who visited Governor Abbott in Texas.

The governor previously sent 30 Public Safety Officers and 24 Iowa National Guard support to Texas and Arizona in December 2021 which cost about $300,000.

The governor’s office said the deployment was successful as they made 240 criminal arrests, 51 vehicle pursuits, seized 18 firearms, $1.7 million dollars, 948 pounds of marijuana, and 37 pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine.

In a statement, Governor Reynolds said:

“The crisis we are experiencing is a direct result of a dereliction of duty by President Biden. The consequences of an open border can be felt across the country as fentanyl and the cartels threaten our communities.”
“While the White House chooses to do nothing, Republican Governors stand ready to protect our state’s interests.”

The request from Governor Abbott appears to be a success as more governors are sending support to help him fight the border crisis.

Do you think Governor Abbott’s request is a success?
