After Title 42 ended, there are about 400 to 500 migrant encounters a day. This is possibly why Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent out his request for governors to join him. So far, there has been a strong response from other Republican governors.
With the end of Title 42 expulsions, President Biden’s own administration estimates that at least 150,000 migrants are waiting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border and enter our country illegally. The flood of illegal border activity invited by the Biden Administration flows directly across the southern border into Texas communities, but this crisis does not stop in our state. Emboldened Mexican drug cartels and other transnational criminal enterprises profit off this chaos, smuggling people and dangerous drugs like fentanyl into communities nationwide.
Department of Public Safety Lieutenant Chris Olivarez was on Fox News and provided the latest update on the border crisis:
“The credit should go to the State of Texas for what we did during the week of Title 42 ending with our Department of Public Safety troopers, Texas National Guard, and everyone who stepped up and held the line in preventing thousands more illegal crossings.”
“It was a concerted effort from everyone involved, and we were able to prevent more crossings. That’s a strategy we’re going to use moving forward, especially in Eagle Pass and El Paso.”
Despite the immigration policies President Joe Biden initiated this year, the number of migrants crossing the border has decreased. But migrants are still crossing illegally and the flow of drugs continues.
Governor Abbott may see more support coming from other States in the near future.
Do you think Governor Abbott made the right decision to ask for support from his fellow governors?
