Honoring my grandparents by stamping their names in the Ireichō at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles. 

The Ireichō is a book that records—for the first time ever—a comprehensive listing of over 125,000 persons of Japanese ancestry who were unjustly incarcerated during WWII. 

Visitors will be able to view the names and use a special Hanko (stamp or seal) to leave a mark as a way to honor those incarcerated by WWII. 

It’s a way for the community to ensure that the identities of incarcerated individuals are acknowledged and remembered. 

Surrounding the book are wooden tablets with the names of 75 US internment and concentration camp locations and jars of soil from each camp hanging above it. 

Timed-entry reservations to view the Ireichō can be made online through JANM’s website.
