Otzelberger -- recruiting him to play in the Big 12 and in Hilton Coliseum. Batemon commits to the Cyclones over Marquette, who also strongly pursued the Milwaukee, Wisc., native."It just keeps getting better, it's just strong. It started off good, right away, especially with them being here from Milwaukee, that's always a plus. Like they come from where you come from, and so they know how you are, they have similarities with you," Batemon told Cyclone Alert in November following a visit to Iowa State's campus. So, just one thing I really like is the head coach, not all schools really have you involved with the head coach a lot. But, man, T.J. (Otzelberger) is on it. We really have a real strong relationship because of his commitment to me." A high-level shot maker, Batemon is averaging close to 22 points a game on the Adidas 3SBB AAU circuit this spring/summer for Power 5, a Wisconsin-based team. Batemon is regarded as one of the elite shooters in his class."Jamarion Batemon is a long, cut-up, and aggressive two-way guard," Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports's director of basketball scouting wrote. "He's a high-volume scorer who plays with a ton of confidence and also a prolific shot-maker, despite a very unorthodox release. He knocked down over 41% of his attempts from behind the arc during the 3SSB regular season while attempting almost 9.0 per game. He's not just a threat on the move and off the dribble, but also capable of getting hot and making his high-arcing shots in bunches, despite a pretty drastic left shoulder dip, twisting motion into his release, and occasional leg kick."While he plays with a distinct scoring mentality, he's capable of playing both on and off the ball. He's not flashy with his handle but can make sharp changes in direction, get to his pull-up, mix in some runners inside the paint, and play some pick-and-roll. He'll hunt shots at times but generally plays a low turnover style (13 total turnovers in 12 3SSB games). His athleticism can also come out when he has the ball in his hands in the open floor, both getting downhill and getting up to finish above the rim."Batemon also has a wealth of intangibles. He plays hard, is competitive, and physically tough. He's an asset on the defensive end of the floor, where his length is a weapon, he fights to get around screens, and can be a playmaking threat with his high steal rate."At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Batemon is a wiry prospect who will likely be asked to add necessary strength when he gets to college. He appears to have a long frame, which should help him be an impactful player on the defensive end when he gets to college.Batemon was one of the country's top risers in the most recent 247Sports rankings update, and he now joins an Iowa State recruiting class that already includes Xzavion Mitchell and Macari Moore. Why it matters: Iowa State now has three commitments in the 2025 recruiting class, which moves the Cyclones to the No. 1 overall class in the country in the 2025 recruiting cycle. It's unlikely Iowa State's recruiting class will finish ranked No. 1 nationally, but it's another sign of the continued talent acquisition Otzelberger is assembling at Iowa State. Milan Momcilovic, a former top 100 recruit, was an All-Big 12 freshman team selection in 2023-24, and while things didn't work with former five-star Omaha Biliew (transfer to Wake Forest), the Cyclones are continuing to add impactful talent to Otzelberger's roster. Batemon was one of the lead targets on Iowa State's recruiting board in the 2025 class and they locked down a commitment prior to the fall. Batemon's commitment could also mean Iowa State is done making additions to the 2025 recruiting class with three prospects already committed.
