INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts defense has struggled in their first two games of the regular season, and now the blue and white just lost one of their best.
The Colts announced Tuesday they have placed All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on injured reserve, which means he will miss at least four games. The loss of Buckner comes off of two back-to-back losses for Indianapolis. The Colts couldn’t get a cohesive defensive game plan running against the Packers, which resulted in Indy’s first road loss of the season in Green Bay.
“First of all, give Green Bay credit,” said Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in a Tuesday press conference, “it’s a challenging offense, there were some eye control issues, a lot of shifts and motions and things like that.”
This conference took place before the team announced Buckner was to be placed on injured reserve.

Bradley says he takes full responsibility for the defensive performance against Green Bay, but he says it’s also a shared responsibility. He says the Packers offense is so new that Indy just didn’t have enough game footage to watch in preparation, and there were inconsistent defensive strategies implemented throughout the Colts’ 10 to 16 loss this past Sunday.
“It always comes back to fundamentals and execution, and we just have to execute better,” Bradley explained.
He explained once the Colts stopped trying “cute” plays and strategies and just stuck to one defensive unit, they performed much better. But it was too little, too late.
Buckner was carted off the field Sunday with an ankle injury. He also had a back injury heading into Lambeau Field, but did start the game.
The Indianapolis Colts are back at home this Sunday as they host the visiting Chicago Bears. It doesn’t get any easier for the blue and white as they have the Pittsburgh Steelers at home the following Sunday, October 6th, then two back-to-back road games against division rivals Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
The Colts are currently 0-2 on the season.
