The Indianapolis Colts will be without one of their best players for at least the next four games.

The team announced on Tuesday that defensive tackle DeForest Buckner had been placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle sprain against Green Bay. Buckner had to be helped off the field and was later carted to the locker room. The injury initially looked like it could be a lot worse, so a sprain is one of the better-case scenario outcomes.

Still, Buckner’s absence will be felt immensely. The Colts have massively struggled against the run to start the season, giving up 474 yards on the ground across two games. Losing their best defensive lineman, and best defensive player, is going to do them no favors. In his stead, Indianapolis is going to need players like Grover Stewart, Raekwon Davis, and others to step up as they attempt to fill the Buckner-sized hole. That’s a mighty tall order, and one that at the moment, the Colts seem unlikely to be able to fill.
