Dog park opens
Community members celebrated April 28 the opening of a new dog park in town, named the Ted & Mid Viola Dog Park. The park is located east of the Abilene Community Center and north of the baseball fields. The land for the park was donated by the two Viola sisters Linda Bankes and Sally Cullor. The park is about an acre large and is divided into two sections.
Abilene names Kyle Taylor to head boys basketball coach
Abilene High School has promoted assistant boys basketball coach Kyle Taylor to succeed Erik Graefe as head coach of the Cowboy basketball program. Taylor, a graduate of Augusta High School, is a veteran basketball coach that played for his father and former Abilene High School coach Terry Taylor at Augusta and won the Class 4A State Championship in 2002.

New Facility at Eisenhower Presidential Library Funded
Students from around the state and region will gather at a new facility on the Eisenhower Presidential Library campus designed for IKEducation programs. Senator J.R. Claeys secured funding for a matching grant of $5 Million directed to the Eisenhower Foundation for the $14 Million education facility and $1 Million in program support.
