Multiple shots for brief showers & storms through Saturday: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/2/24
Looking at the next 48 hours, it looks like we will ahve two shots for storms across the area – neither chance for rain looks particularly potent. The first shot for rain will be leftovers from yesterday’s storms across parts of central and west Texas. These storms will be decaying as they get into the area, but will still feature some brief heavy rain, gusty wind and lightning.
Group questioning firing of Lacy Lakeview police chief
LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas (FOX 44) – A state-wide law enforcement group has questions about the firing of Lacy Lakeview Police Chief Jeron Barnett. CLEAT, which stands for Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas, sent a letter to Lacy Lakeview Mayor Niecey Payne – recommending she hire a third-party neutral investigator to look into allegations of a hostile work environment in the Police Department. This comes after the City Council to uphold City Manager Calvin Hodde’s firing of Barnett on Tuesday.

Lightning strike causes two-alarm Waco house fire
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – UPDATE: Lightning strikes a Waco home and causes a house fire. Waco Fire Department Lieutenant/Deputy Fire Marshal Keith Guillory tells FOX 44 News that crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Old Steinbeck Road at approximately 6:36 a.m. Thursday. The department said on social media that this was a two-alarm fire.
