SUBURY — A Northumberland County man has been sentenced to 1 to 5 years in prison for providing the fentanyl that killed his brother. Christopher Payne, 22, of Mount Carmel, apologized before being sentenced Monday in county court on a charge of involuntary manslaughter to which he had pleaded guilty in February.

Route 61 in Northumberland closed due to crash
Shamokin, Pa. — Motorists are advised that Route 61 is closed in both directions between Route 2020 (Mountain Road) and Route 487 in Ralpho Township, north of Shamokin Borough, Northumberland County, due to a vehicle crash with downed utilities. A detour using Mountain Road, Route 54, and Route 61 is in place. Theft reported at churches in Herndon area
Herndon, Pa. — Police are investigating two separate theft incidents from churches near Herndon in Northumberland County. The first reported theft was between March 31 and April 7 at Zion Church on Main Street in Herndon. Trp. Lucas Roshannon of state police at Stonington says someone broke into the church and took $550 cash made up of various bill denominations and change. The unknown suspect also took 300 church donation envelopes. In a separate incident, an unknown suspect broke into St. Paul's United Church of Christ on Urban Road in Jordan Township sometime around April 20. The suspect smashed the window of an interior door and took $50 in canned good donations and $20 cash, according to Trp. Adams. Anyone with information may contact PSP Stonington at 570 286-5601.
