Woman headed to prison in fatal hit-and-run on Rolling Acres Road
A woman is headed to prison after a hit-and-run crash on Rolling Acres Road killed a 40-year-old pedestrian. Tara Rene Schiessle, 32, of Lady Lake, pleaded no contest on Monday in Lake County Court to charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury. The former Lake Centre for Rehab physical therapist assistant has been sentenced to three years in state prison to be followed by three years of probation. Court records indicate the prosecutor’s office waived a four-year minimum mandatory sentence as part of the plea deal. A charge of insurance fraud was also dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

An employee of a Mexican restaurant at Spanish Springs Town Square has been jailed for the second time this year. Miguel Lopez Lopez, 44, of Lady Lake, who works at Ay! Jalisco Mexican Cafe on Main Street, was driving a red Toyota Tacoma at about 11 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when an officer ran the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the vehicle’s registered owner does not possess a driver’s license, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A traffic stop was initiated at the entrance to Spanish Springs, at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Main Street.

A woman traveling with a small dog has been arrested with a large quantity of methamphetamine. Precious Elizabeth Williams, 26, of Orlando, was driving a GMC SUV shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday in the area of U.S. 301 and State Road 44 when an officer noticed that the license plate had expired in 2021, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The officer found that Williams’ license was suspended and that she had been convicted of driving while license suspended in 2020 in Broward County.
