John Walker was born in 1747 in County Antrim, Ireland. At age 29, in 1776, he enlisted as a Private in Capt. John Morrow’s Company of Pennsylvania Riflemen of the 2nd Battalion. Big Springs Road, South Old Glory Road closing Monday
The Blount County Highway Department will close parts of Big Springs Road and South Old Glory Road to enable resurfacing work today, April 22. A press release from the department states that Big Springs will be shut from its intersection with William Blount Drive to its intersection with South Old Glory Road. Wood County BOE’s Lubeck purchase a mistake
The Wood County Board of Education recently purchased 31.23 acres of land in Washington, W.Va. This property was purchased to build the new Lubeck Elementary School. This purchase was an extremely irresponsible financial decision by the Wood County Board of Education. The price for this piece of property was $755,000. You would think with such a large purchase and price tag, the Wood County Board of Education would have at the very least had an appraisal done to make sure they are paying a fair price for the property.

Missing West Virginia woman found safe
A West Virginia woman who has been missing for more than three days, after last being seen in Pilot Mountain, has been found safe in a Virginia hotel, according to her daughter. Sarah Minney Wright, of Roane County, West Virginia, was reported missing by her daughter, Lexi Wright, of Havelock, on Sunday.
