Southern Iowa sheriff asking for help on cold case
APPANOOSE COUNTY, Iowa — The Appanoose County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in a 16-year-old cold case. Chuck Deatsch was found shot to death at his home in rural Mystic in southeast Iowa in 2008. The murder case remains unsolved, but deputies say they aren't forgetting the case.
Explosion heard during drug raid at southeast Iowa home
CINCINNATI, Iowa — Multiple law enforcement agencies conducted a major raid of a southeast Iowa residence Thursday morning. They served a narcotic search warrant at the home of Jeffery Wayne Shondel, 61, of Cincinnati, Iowa. Shondel was arrested and charged with interference with official acts and various narcotic-related charges.
Appanoose County EMA coordinator says sirens failed to sound before Tuesday's storm
CENTERVILLE, Iowa — Residents in Appanoose County reported not hearing warning sirens during Tuesday night’s severe weather event. Mike Lamb, emergency management coordinator in Appanoose County, confirmed the sirens did not sound off in Centerville because of a system failure. Lamb went on to say his department is working on the system to determine the cause of the failure. His department will provide an update once the system is repaired.
