Collin County Sees Lowest Homelessness Count Since 2015
A recently released report from a point-in-time count in January 2024 revealed that homelessness in Collin County is at its lowest since 2015. Housing Forward, the leading nonprofit addressing homelessness in the region, reported that 3,718 homeless currently reside in Dallas and Collin Counties. The count in January signifies the third consecutive year of decline in homelessness, a departure from the upward trend observed over the past decade. According to the report, almost 88% of the 3,718 individuals tallied in January reside in Dallas County, with 12% originating from Collin County. Texas AG Paxton sues Biden Administration over changes in private gun sales rules
FRISCO, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the Biden Administration again, this time over new rules on private gun sales. Along with Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, Paxton announced the lawsuit at a Frisco gun shop and shooting range, attempting to block a new rule that would require licenses for all gun sellers and federal background checks on all gun purchases including at gun shows or in private transactions.
2 charged with murder after man killed in robbery
McKinney police say a 23-year-old man was shot and killed inside a car in a neighborhood off White Avenue. Police say the shooting was the result of a robbery, but they wouldn’t explain any other circumstances surrounding the crime.

Dallas man sentenced for fentanyl death of Frisco 20-year-old
PLANO, Texas — A Dallas man was sentenced to 16 years in federal prison after selling fentanyl-laced pills resulting in the death of a Frisco man, officials said. Benjamin Linder, 23, was sentenced Wednesday for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death. Linder, also known as Benzo, admitted to selling drugs that led to the overdose death of a 20-year-old Frisco man, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Texas.

Fry Street Fair returns to Denton after 17 years
The Fry Street Fair returned to Denton after a 17-year hiatus last weekend, taking place over the course of two days and occupying over four city blocks. After a rocky start with the original organizers of the fair, the new organizer and owner of the Dirty Dicks bar on Avenue A, Andy Saunders, continued the tradition of the Fry Street Fair. According to Saunders, the event featured music from over 60 bands and many of the proceeds were donated to various charities and nonprofit organizations.
