The Kotzebue Huskies were not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The contest between them and Barrow wasn't particularly close, with Kotzebue falling 74-57. The Barrow Whalers won the last time they faced the Kotzebue Huskies, and things went their way on Friday too. Barrow put the hurt on Kotzebue with a sharp 72-51 win. Barrow found their leader in underclassman Alex Fruean, who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fruean has scored all season. Longtime Alaska Native journalist Nellie Moore dies
Nellie Moore was a groundbreaking Alaska Native journalist for over 40 years, working to help preserve and document Inupiaq culture. She began working for the local Kotzebue newspaper in 1973 at the age of 19, and her work has been recognized with numerous awards. Moore died Jan. 31, 2024, at the age of 69.
