Tribe breaks ground on Gaia Prairie Band
A groundbreaking ceremony was held last Friday for a new 40,000-square foot manufacturing and warehouse facility, Gaia Prairie Band, east of U.S. Highway 75 on 150th Road. The new business, which will initially employ about 20 people when it opens early next year, will produce 100 percent sustainable paper goods, including cups, straws and lids, according to Jacob Wamego, President and CEO of Prairie Band, LLC.

Traffic stop leads to pair being arrested on meth charges in Jackson County
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -A traffic stop near Hoyt leads to two people from Mayetta being arrested on meth charges on Saturday, April 20. According to Sheriff Tim Morse, Jackson County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Kia Sorento for a traffic infraction at 118th and S Road near Hoyt. During the stop, Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. Deputies found multiple open containers were located along with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
