RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) - Warmer months are approaching, and many people are going to be looking for ways to cool off. A local park is working on a new way to do so. Hodag Park in Rhinelander has been around for a long time and now, it is starting to get more attention, with plans to expand the playground and add a new splash pad. Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander has been around for over 50 years, helping the community with keeping up on recreational activities such as parks and hiking trails. Kiwanis board member Brandon Karaba said they have a special mission.
3 counties to host Deer Advisory Council meetings on Monday
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Deer Advisory Councils in Portage, Marathon and Vilas County will gather Monday to discuss what this fall’s deer season should look like. Each county in Wisconsin has a County Deer Advisory Council to provide input to the department on deer management within their county. Councils work with local department staff to review population data and deer impacts on forests and agriculture. That information is used to develop three-year plan on county population objectives and create annual antlerless harvest quotas.

Rhinelander Elementary schools are raising money to help supply fresh water
RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) - There are many places around the world that might need extra support when it comes to fresh water. However, local schools are doing their part to help supply fresh water to places in need. Instructional coach of the Rhinelander School District, Jenny Prom, said the inspiration started back in 2018 when she was a second-grade teacher. She read the book "The Water Princess" about the struggles of not having easy access to water.
Antigo shuts out Rhinelander on road in Great Northern Conference win
RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW)- A massive rivalry game for high school softball happen on Thursday. Rhinelander hosted Antigo in a Great Northern Conference showdown in Rhinelander. The Hodags came into this matchup on a five-game losing streak, looking to get back in the win column for the first time since April 4th. Overall, Rhinelander was 1-8 on the year and held a 1-4 conference record, putting them in 6th place in the Great Northern Conference.
