IMPACT: Storm system brings severe storm threat Memorial Day
Sunday has been gorgeous and a little less humid thanks to the storm system that moves through yesterday. The diffuse cold front really starts to push back to the north as a warm front tonight, and that boundary has already sparked a complex of storms to our west. These will weaken thanks to the loss of daytime driven instability, but we we'll still have some showers and rumbles moving in late this evening. This stronger system continues its trek east just in time for Memorial Day. Widespread showers and storms on the table but we'll still have some lulls in the precip. so keep your eyes to the sky. The question mark is how much can we destabilize between the AM and PM. We have the potential for a few severe storms with the current set-up but the cloud cover and temps/moisture content will be key. If can keep the AM clouds around, we'll stay more stable. If not, it's off to the races. There is a level 2/5, Slight Risk for all of the Valley. The Storm Team has designated it an IMPACT DAY so stay weather aware if you're traveling! All forms of severe weather are on the table if we can become unstable, including a tornado or two. Conditions then brighten up and dry out on Tuesday but a spotty shower and storm are still possible as an upper-level disturbance swings through. A more potent piece of "energy" dives in Wednesday and that will bring scattered showers and rumbles once again. Temps will take a tumble with this NW flow aloft, with highs expected to dip back into the lower and middle 70s Wednesday and Thursday. This dip in the jetstream finally moves eastbound late in the week, with ridging developing. Highs start to rebound back toward 80 as we progress into next week with more sunshine on tap. Chances for showers and storms look to rebound once again, with a storm system moving toward us into early the following week.
