Storm Tracker Forecast: Showers & thunderstorm chances linger Friday
It's a good idea to throw on a jacket and to keep your umbrella handy as you get ready to head out the door Friday. A cool and wet system tracking through the Pacific Northwest will drive cloudy skies, cool temperatures, and the potential for showers and thunderstorms across our region to end your work week. We've had cloudy skies and scattered showers across our region overnight. Most scattered showers have lingered in our higher elevations, but areas of Tehama, Butte and Glenn counties have had pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorm activity early Friday morning. Scattered showers will be possible in the valley through late this afternoon, and we'll have scattered mountain showers through the day. Scattered showers and the potential for thunderstorm activity will persist in the foothills and Sierra Friday evening. Temperatures are starting out in the 50's in the valley, 40's in most foothill areas, and 30's to 40's in our mountain zones. Winds are out of the southeast to 10mph to start the day, but will get stronger as they shift to become out of the northwest this afternoon. Gusts up to around 30mph out of the northwest are expected from mid afternoon through tonight. High temperatures are projected to climb into the upper 60's to lower 70's in the valley, 50's to low 60's in most foothill areas, and 40's to mid 50's in our mountain zones Friday afternoon. The winds will most likely be the biggest impact to anyone heading out to enjoy the Kool April Nights Cruise in Redding Friday evening.
