High school track records broken
Recently, track athletes from multiple Macoupin County high schools set historic marks at their respective track and field meets. Hannah Gibson of Carlinville unleashed the furthest discus throw in the history of the Pana Invite at 11.56m Apr. 13. The North Mac girls’ relay team of Kaelyn Swift, Addison Earley, Emma Crawford and Alexis Bowman set a new school record of the fastest 4×200 race with a time of 1:48.34 at the Bert Trump Relays Apr. 24. On Apr. 25, sophomore phenom Chaz Oberkfell ran the fastest 1600-meter race in Gillespie High School history. 1600 meters is the equivalent of a mile, which Oberkfell finished in 4:28.97. Carlinville Band Program presents Spring Concert
The Carlinville Band Program held its Spring Concert on Sunday April 28. The Concert featured the Beginner Band, Middle School Band, High School Choir and High School Band. The Beginner Band played three selections from the class band book being The Barcarolle, Theme by Beethoven and Old McDonald. Each song showed off various skills the musicians learned throughout the year. The beginner band includes: Halle Inman, Aela Kluthe, Harper Ryan, Brittney Fugate, Teagan Gwinn, Taylor Harding, Grace Marshall, Scarlett Phelps, Lillia Snell, Ella White, Brynlee Clevenger, Olivia Stover, Savanna Winnett, Henley Bomkamp, Jayla Cruz, Jak Lyerla, Isaic Miller, Lylia Striplin, Caleb Gerl, Tyler Perkins, Frances Ziglar, Zeke Davis, Kadence White, Jonathon Whitlock, Kirkland Cameron, Presley Enrietta, Violet Griffiths, Allison Rhodes, Murphy Rowe and Jaden Simmons.
Patrick Dunn heads to Nationals with FCCLA
FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is not a group often talked about when discussing the clubs and extracurriculars available to students in High School. FCCLA is a student led organization dedicated to helping the community and high school students prepare to be activate citizens and leaders in their communities. The Carlinville FCCLA group went to the State Conference and Competition on April 14 and 15 to compete in a variety of categories. From Carlinville, Patrick Dunn competed in Job Interview level 3, Allie Heusing competed in Job Interview level 2, Julia Amos competed in Chapter in Review Display, Hallee Kaburick competed in Sports Nutrition, Liz Hammann competed in Educational Toy, and Brenden Daugherty competed in Public Speaking – FCCLA Creed.
