A man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after straying near the helipad at UF Health-The Villages Hospital. A security guard at the hospital contacted law enforcement shortly before 2 a.m. Friday to report a “possible drunk pedestrian” who was “falling into a vehicle,” according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Vairley Nickerson, 41, was arrested and charged with petit theft and meth possession after the incident that unfolded at the gas station at 3431 Southern Trace in Lady Lake on Wednesday, according to an arrest affidavit from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

A driver who failed to pay a traffic ticket was apprehended with fentanyl and methamphetamine. Derrick Stanley Januszyk, 47, of Summerfield, was driving a white Honda SUV on Thursday afternoon in the 1400 block of SE 145th Street in Summerfield when a deputy spotted Januszyk and was aware his license possibly had been suspended for failure to pay a ticket, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

A Village of St. Johns woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to steal plants and paper towels. Keshmira Engineer, 56, went to the Lowe’s home improvement store at Trailwinds Village at about 10 a.m. Wednesday and headed for the garden section where she loaded multiple plants into her cart, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The plants were identified as Dianella and Purslane. She left the store and loaded the plants into her black Honda Pilot.
We were pioneers in The Villages back in 2000
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about driving cars in the old days. The Blonde in the House has suggested that I muse on what life was like in The Villages when we moved here way back in 2000. It was different then. After a quick visit in 1999. We came back to look at lots and homes. We were put up in a villa for the night and given Village dollars that we could use to buy stuff at the stores in Spanish Springs. Spanish Springs was not finished. (No, they were not legal anywhere else.) In fact, the big building at the top of the Square was not there. What was there was a tent, and there was another tent where a number of restaurants have been. They sold farmer’s goods out of the latter tent.

Two people in a stolen car were arrested at a grocery in The Villages. An officer was on patrol at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday when his automatic license plate reader hit on a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Winn-Dixie supermarket at La Plaza Grande.
