Johnston City High School collecting donations for family of student killed in car crash
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois high school is collecting donations for the family of a student who died in a car crash. According to a post on the Johnston City Schools Facebook page, the high school will accept donations to help the family with funeral expenses. You can drop off donations at the high school and unit office until Friday, May 3.
Former VA psychologist sentenced for health care fraud, other crimes
BENTON, Ill. (KFVS) - A former psychologist in southern Illinois was sentenced on Wednesday for health care fraud, among other related crimes. According to the Department of Justice, a district judge sentenced 57-year-old Theresa A. Kelly, 57 of Herrin to 10 months in prison after she admitted to submitting false medical documents, obstructing justice and committing Medicare fraud while employed as a licensed clinical psychologist with the Marion VA Medical Center.
51st annual Rend Lake Water Festival set for May
SOUTHERN Ill. (KFVS) - The 51st annual Rend Lake Water Festival will be May 1-4. Events will include a carnival, talent show, car show, parade and vendor fair. According to the website, the carnival will in the northeast corner of the Benton Public Square on the city parking lot behind Joe’s Pizza. It will be Wednesday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day and then 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets cost $3 for a single ticket, $28 for 10 tickets, $52 for 20 tickets and $25 for an armband. All rides will be one ticket each.
Authorities looking for missing southern Illinois man
BENTON, Ill. (KFVS) - Local authorities are seeking information on the whereabouts of a missing man out of Benton, Illinois. According to the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, 77-year-old Kenneth D. Gant has been declared missing. Gant is described as a white male who is 6′1″ tall and weighs 195 pounds.
