Yuma-1 accepting Outlaw images
Yuma School District-1 is accepting Outlaws mascot images through May 10. The district had been working with a firm to create an Outlaws mascot since the new mascot was announced last September. However, district leaders became frustrated with the process. It was decided at the Yuma-1 Board of Education meeting in March to open up submissions to the public. It took several weeks before all the legalities were ironed out.
Outlaws have opportunities coming up
Yuma High School’s baseball team needs to stay on the correct side of the ledger to maintain a chance of possibly hosting a Class 2A regional next month. The Outlaws are 6-4 heading into Friday’s rescheduled game at Akron, followed by a home game Saturday against rival Wray. They then play two at Wiggins on Tuesday, April 30. They were supposed to play two at Akron this past Saturday, but the snowy conditions caused its cancellation. (It was rescheduled to just one game Friday.)
A new era for Yuma City Council
A realigned Yuma City Council was sworn in and seated during the council’s regular meeting last week. Ron Swehla stepped down after a total of 14 years on the council in two different stretches, the last six as mayor. Sworn in to new terms were councilmen Dan Baucke, Zach Diaz and Marc Shay. It is Diaz’s first term. Tim McClung was sworn in as mayor after spending the last two years as a councilman.

Y-1 Board deals with preschool policy
Primary/preprimary education tuition slots was an issue dealt with by the Yuma School District-1 Board of Directors during its regular monthly meeting, Monday night at the District Office. Board president John Deering and fellow board members Terri Cooper, Heath Roundtree and Tyson Brown were in attendance. Lindsey Galles was absent.
