Rutland DRB rejects permit for cannabis growing operation
RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - City permits for a Rutland man’s backyard cannabis growing operation have been overturned. Frederick Watkins was attempting to grow the new business in a 1,000-square-foot garage-like building in the backyard of his East Washington Street home. But neighbors on nearby Butterfly Avenue filed appeals over the approved zoning permits, saying the grow operation wasn’t a good fit for the residential neighborhood.
Man accused of threatening women with snow shovel
South Glens Falls Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening women with a snow shovel. Chadd J. Zerniak, 34, approached three women who were walking on Main Street on Monday, held a shovel over his head in a threatening manner and stated that he would “kill” them, police said.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Vince Quenneville, Jr., won his second Sunoco Sportsman Modified Feature of 2024 on Saturday, June 1, defeating Randy Ryan and Brent Warren. Pat Miner led the field to green and led the first seven laps, before AJ Munger assumed control on the outside lane from lap eight until lap 11 when Brent Warren took over. At the same time, Quenneville, who won back on May 11, was already up to 3rd from 14th. He took the lead from Warren on lap 14 and led the rest of the way, winning by 2.89 seconds over Ryan, Warren, Travis Green and Tanner Siemons.
Glens Falls man convicted on robbery charges, ankle bracelet seals his fate
WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. (WRGB) — A Glens Falls man was convicted on three felony charges in January 2023, Warren County District Attorney Jason Carusone announced on Monday. Joshua M. Heym, 28, was convicted of two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of attempted second-degree robbery after a nine-day trial before Warren County Judge Robert Smith on Friday, May 31, 2024. The charges stemmed from incidents in Glens Falls from Jan.10 to Jan.12, 2023, where Heym pointed a black handgun at the victims for robbery. A small amount of cash was stolen during each incident.
Rutland mental health service providers accused of defrauding Vermont Medicaid
The Attorney General’s Office announced June 3 that it has filed civil enforcement actions against two Vermont Medicaid providers for fraud. The lawsuits, currently pending in Vermont Superior Court, were investigated and brought by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU) and allege separate violations of the Vermont False Claims Act.
