GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Saturday is a First Alert Weather Day for widespread rain and storms, prompting some weekend events to make changes, reschedule, or cancel. Storm chances arise by Saturday afternoon, increasing chances into early evening which will limit any outdoor activity. We’re watching the potential for some storms to bring heavy downpours, leading to potential isolated flooding issues.
Clemson alumnus’ horse to run in upcoming Kentucky Derby
CLEMSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby is happening this weekend, and one of the horses has ties to the Upstate. Clemson officials said 1989 Clemson alumnus Brook T. Smith’s horse Sierra Leone will be among the horses competing in the race this weekend. Sierra Leone is a three-year-old horse who won the 2024 Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and the 2024 Risen Star (G2).
Upstate teen rescues older neighbor from burning home
LIBERTY, S.C. — On Monday, April 29, 92-year-old Philip Newton was at his home in Liberty. Newton said for the last few years, he's had a problem with carpenter bees damaging the outside of his home. In an effort to rid himself of the insect issue, Newton said he's been using a torch to remove the bees, but that, along with other efforts, has been unsuccessful.
