The Fort Bragg Garden Club knows that there are many beautiful yards in our community. The Garden Club’s 15th Annual “Sidewalk Gardens to Bragg About” contest recognizes and honors those yards and the gardeners who lovingly tend them. Any time from May 1 – May 17, please nominate a beautiful yard – your own or another’s – if it is in the Fort Bragg city limits, can be seen from the sidewalk, and is a pleasing-to-the-eye, well-kept space.
Mendocino Coast home to largest rhododendron show in California
FORT BRAGG, CA — Each year, the Noyo Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society partners with Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens to showcase some of the best rhododendron specimens on the West Coast. The 45th annual John Druecker Memorial Rhododendron Show will be held at the Gardens on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5. This juried show is the largest in California, with a typical show displaying more than 800 entries, filling the exhibition tent with cascades of colors and fragrances.
Helene Chalfin embarks on new adventures after 32 years of service
After 32 years of job evolution, from a naturalist/educator to Director of a Site Enhancement Project, Education programs, and a Native Plant Nursery, Helene Chalfin has moved on to new ventures. Her years of service followed the growth and development of Jug Handle Creek Farm and Nature Center in Caspar, from an old farmhouse with a few cabins in an interesting, unusual environmental setting to a well-respected educational institution with updated facilities.
