Rockland’s Memorial Day 2024 takes shelter from the rain, asks for a day of solemn appreciation
ROCKLAND — On the heels of two beautiful days that marked the start of a holiday weekend, David Sulin had intended to incorporate phrases like: “the wonderful smell of a pine laden breeze,” and “feel the breeze off the harbor,” and “as we gather in the shadow of the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Memorial.” He still verbalized those phrases from his Memorial Day 2024 speech, but then waited expectantly for the chuckles of irony that emanated from a tolerant audience, who, at the last minute, found themselves crowding into the American Legion Hall in Rockland. To offset the change of venue, Sulin added phrases such as “a roof over our heads,” and “the ability to adapt.”
This Week in Lincolnville: The Store in the Center
Knight’s Store, Bill’s Store, The Center General. The building smack in the center of the Center has long been the place to get all manner of goods. In the old days it was a true General Store, selling dry goods, clothing and boots, seasonal toys and gifts. Most households tried to produce everything they needed, relying on the general stores for those items they could not make on their own little farms.

Memorial Day schedule for Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville
On Memorial Day, American Legion Post 30 and its community neighbors will honor the men and women who have lost their lives defending America since the Revolutionary War. “The American Legion will lead our communities in remembering those who gave their lives in service to our country,” said Jeff Sukeforth, Legion Post 30 Adjutant, in a news release. “Our Gold Star families carry the weight and pain of these losses every day of the year. An empty seat at dinner, a missing face during the holidays, a child’s first birthday without one or both parents. When we speak of sacrifice we not only talking about those killed in the line of duty, but also of the families whose loved ones are suddenly no longer there and are left behind. For them Memorial Day is not just the end of a 3-day weekend, but a somber moment for everyone to reflect on the steep price paid for our freedoms.”
Protect Camden property rights, Vote No on Articles 5, 6, and 7
The Camden Planning Board has been misinformed, misguided and simply missed the point as it relates to affordable housing and other complex housing issues facing our community. Instead of creatively addressing this issue by forming a specialized work group or other mechanism to address affordable housing issues, they’ve simply sought...
