Gretna Fire & Rescue battled structure fire, no injuries reported
GRETNA, Va. (WSET) — Gretna Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post that there was a structure fire on Friday. According to firefighters, Station 22 was dispatched for a second due working structure fire at 9:33 a.m. Engine 223, Tanker 226, and Command 22 responded with 9 members total.
246 The Main “reruns” favorite plays to 10th celebrate anniversary
246 The Main Cultural Arts Theater is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Main Street this year by repeating three plays they have done over their time in Brookneal. The first was written by co-owner Donnalynn Davis for the theater’s debut. “People have no idea, but producing copyrighted plays and musicals costs money, anywhere from $800 to over $6,000, depending on how many performances, size of the theater, ticket cost, and other factors…even before you sell your first ticket. After building our dream on Main Street, we had little funds left to pay for a known show, so since I’m a writer, we decided to produce a comedy I wrote to kick off 246 The Main, and save some money.”

Altavista Police Department holds awards to recognize recent promotions in APD
On April 19, Altavista Police Department held a promotion ceremony at town hall. This ceremony was held to recognize recent promotions within the department. Recognized were:. Officer Cory Earhart and his partner K9 Xero. They were tabbed the department’s K9 unit last summer. Xero is a two year old Drathaar breed, who’s primary mission is finding drugs. Earhart and his partner have been responsible for over 20 drug cases since the program started. They are doing a great job in helping deter illegal drugs in our town.
