18-wheeler goes up in flames at busy intersection in Woodway
WOODWAY, Texas (KWTX) - Firefighters Wednesday afternoon extinguished a fire that destroyed an 18-wheeler at the busy intersection of Highway 84 and Santa Fe.
The blaze was reported at about 12:25 p.m. and led to the closure of Highway 84 and Santa Fe Drive. The highway, bridge, and road were reopened to traffic shortly after 3 p.m.
TxDOT said it performed a “thorough bridge inspection and determined the impacted overpass is safe for travel and has been reopened.”
“TxDOT will close the west to eastbound U-turn at the intersection indefinitely for clean up in the area,” the state agency said.
The driver of the truck did not suffer any injuries. A firefighter, however, sustained minors injuries, and was checked by first responders at the scene.
Woodway police reported two separate, unrelated wrecks in the area while firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze.
