Two killed in multi-vehicle head-on crash near Deer Creek Reservoir

WALLSBURG, Utah (KUTV) — Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash near Deer Creek Reservoir.

Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday on Highway 189 near milepost 21 in Wallsburg.

Roden said a vehicle was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it crossed over into northbound lanes and hit an SUV head-on. Both drivers died at the scene.

Two other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the crash, with those drivers receiving minor injuries.

Both directions of the highway were closed following the crash, with one lane later opening on the southbound shoulder that officials were using to alternate directions of travel. The road was covered with debris from the crash and a small car fire.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, and traffic was heavily backed up in both directions.

No information regarding the identity, age or gender of the victims were initially released.
