Van Buren, N.Y. — The driver of one of two vehicles involved in a crash that closed part of State Fair Boulevard for two hours Sunday afternoon suffered a medical emergency, Onondaga County Sheriff’s spokesman Tom Newton said.
Someone called 911 at 2:27 p.m. to report the crash on State Fair Boulevard, also known as Route 48, at Idlewood Boulevard. The 911 reported a woman injured in the crash was having a seizure, according to police dispatches. A short time later, someone else reported the woman had “agonal respirations,” a medical term that refers to an unusual breathing pattern, dispatches said.
The North West Fire District, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corp (GBAC) ambulance responded to the scene. GBAC transported the woman to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, according to 911 dispatchers.
Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies followed the ambulance to the hospital and later learned that the woman is going to have a full recovery, sheriff’s spokesman Tom Newton said.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash also was transported to a Syracuse hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries, Newton said.
Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies closed State Fair Boulevard, between Village Boulevard South and Idlewood Boulevard — across from Tessy Plastics Corp. — in the town of Van Buren, for more than two hours Sunday after the crash. The road reopened at 4:50 p.m. Newton said.
Village Boulevard South is the entrance to Village Green; Idlewood Boulevard is near Cedarwood Apartments.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released the names of those involved, but Newton said everyone appears to be OK. Deputies also have not yet issued any tickets, Newton said.
