Multiple agencies respond to landfill fire in southwestern Shasta County

IGO, Calif. —
Multiple agencies, including Cal Fire, responded to a fire that broke out overnight at the West Central Landfill in Igo.

Several residents saw the fire from where they live and proceeded to call 911, according to Capt. Dave Chapman from Cal Fire.
The fire grew to about 100 by 100 feet, burning garbage and debris within the landfill, Capt. Chapman said.
Officials say multiple agencies were there, including the Shasta County Fire Department, Mountain Gate Volunteer Fire Department, Happy Valley Fire Department and Cal Fire.
A Battalion Chief and fire prevention officer were at the scene, along with three engines and five water tenders.
Cal Fire said that there were no injuries reported. The cause is still under investigation.
