N.H. beach closed after truck crashes onto sand, catches fire, police say

A section of a New Hampshire beach was closed Sunday morning after a pickup truck crashed onto the sand, catching fire, authorities say.

According to the Rye Police Department, at about 5:30 a.m., police received a report of a crash and vehicle on fire at Wallis Sands State Park. At the scene, they found a Ford F-150 pickup truck about 100 feet below the roadway on the beach.

One person was brought to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment, police said in a Facebook post.

Park staff closed the section of the beach where the crash occurred because of possible debris in the sand. Visitors were asked to check with life guards to see where on the beach it was safe to swim on Sunday.

Investigators believe the truck was traveling south on Ocean Boulevard before the crash. The crash is under investigation, but police believe speed was a factor based on information from a witness.
