Plumbing Van Destroyed In Rock Rapids Fire

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A small van was destroyed in a fire on Friday, December 8, 2023, in Rock Rapids.

According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Ed Reck, at about 10:45 a.m., the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a van on fire near 101 First Avenue, just west of the Highway 9 bridge in the Papik Motors parking lot in Rock Rapids.

The chief says the fire department saw the engine compartment of a small DRG Mechanical van behind Papik Motors on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Reck says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Reck reports that the van was totaled in the blaze but its contents of plumbing tools and equipment were saved.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for a half an hour to 45 minutes.
