ROCHELLE — There were no injuries following a school bus fire on Friday morning, a release by Shared Rochelle School Districts Superintendent Jason Harper said.

Rochelle Schools were made aware of a bus fire that took place near the intersection of Illinois Route 38 and Center Road. The bus route is one of the districts’ special routes which is contracted out to the Illinois Central School Bus company.

“At the time of the incident, two Illinois Central employees and one Rochelle student were on the bus,” Harper’s letter said. “The adults and child safely evacuated the bus without sustaining any injuries. First responders made appropriate health checks and parents of the student impacted by this situation have been notified. The district will continue to work with Illinois Central, as well as our own buses, to ensure safe transportation to and from school.”

The districts thanked the Rochelle Fire Department and the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with the situation.

“This is a good reminder for us all to maintain the best safety procedures as possible,” Harper said. “It is also important to note that all students have completed bus evacuation drills this school year. If you have any questions about bus safety, please reach out to your building principal for more information.”
