A motorcycle rider was killed after colliding with a semi-truck in Puyallup early Sunday morning.
Puyallup police and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to the scene at 3 a.m. in the 900 block of Valley Ave NW. The semi-truck and trailer had reportedly caught on fire after the crash.
Police said the preliminary investigation shows the 34-year-old motorcycle rider was traveling at a "high rate of speed when he struck the semi."
The roads around Valley Ave NW where the crash happened were closed for hours early Sunday for the crash investigation. They eventually reopened at 10:34 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the cause of the crash appears to be speed and reckless driving by the motorcycle rider, however, the investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the motorcycle rider has not been released.
The fire following the crash burned through some powerlines in the area, which caused a power outage for several hours, police said.
The semi-truck driver was reportedly not injured.
