A quick response by local emergency personnel helped extinguish a tractor trailer fire which occurred around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. It happened in the southbound lane on Tennessee Ave. N. in Parsons just north of where it connects with Maxwell Street.

According to AutoZone manager Arron McCormick, 22, local law enforcement and emergency personnel arrived on the scene within five minutes and had the fire under control almost as soon as they had their hoses deployed. McCormick said he looked up from his cash register and noticed a truck stopped on the right shoulder of Tennessee Ave. N. and then witnessed the engine bursting into flames.

He watched the driver exit the vehicle and attempted to put out the fire using his onboard extinguisher, but it wasn’t enough. McCormick quickly called 911. By the actions of the first responders, it is not believed that the trailer was carrying any hazardous materials. Further, all references to ASA Trucking refer to it as a product transport rather than a HAZMAT or fuel conveyer.
