KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — First responders battled a fire on Westbound Interstate 40 in Loudon County after a semi-truck overturned, closing the roadway.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, I-40 West was closed at mile marker 364 near the exit to Highway 321.
Fire crews could be seen on TDOT's Smartway cameras battling a large fire from an overturned semi-truck. The fire flared up several times and at one point spread to the nearby grass.
As of 1:59 p.m., it is seen on TDOT's Smartway camera that officials diverted traffic from I-40 West to I-40 East at Buttermilk Road.
At around 2:30 p.m., TDOT announced the left lane was reopened and that traffic diversion was still in place as stuck traffic was being turned.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the semi-truck was traveling west when the driver said the vehicle "started to smoke." The driver then pulled over and the tractor completely burned but the trailer was not damaged, the report said.
No injuries have been reported after the fire.
