LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - A motorhome fire closed the northbound lanes of traffic on I-65 near mile markers 346 through 351 in Limestone County Saturday afternoon.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m., causing a large fire and prompting visibility issues near the interstate.

Huntsville Fire & Rescue Chief Howard McFarland said the incident happened after a wheel that was on a trailer being towed by a motorhome came off the trailer and then drug along the side sparking the roadway. This then led to a fire crossing several miles on I-65.

HFR Fire Chief said Athens Fire & Rescue, Decatur Fire & Rescue, Segers Volunteer Fire Department, Elkmont Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Oak Grove Thatch Fire & Rescue, Alabama Forestry Commission and ALEA all assisted on the scene. A Segers VFD truck was involved in the fire after getting rear-ended in the roadway by another vehicle.
