According to authorities, the call came in at 9:26 a.m. and all westbound lanes were closed on the block of 3000 Washington Road, underneath the interstate intersection.

All lanes were closed until a towing company came to take the car away at 10:50 a.m. and all lanes were re-opened as of 11:50 a.m.

The owner of the car, Kelton Styles, is at University Hospital as of 3 p.m. being checked for injuries from the incident.

He told us that he was driving down Washington Road when his car made a concerning noise. He got out to pop the hood when it exploded on his face and chest. He immediately tried to recover and direct people on the three-lane road away from the car.

Richmond County had arrived when exploded more than twice after Styles had walked away, according to Styles.
