Car fire closes westbound Washington Road in front of Krispy Kreme
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A vehicle fire caused a stop in traffic in front of Krispy Kreme on Friday morning.
According to authorities, the call came in at 9:26 a.m. and all westbound lanes were closed on the block of 3000 Washington Road, underneath the interstate intersection.
All lanes were closed until a towing company came to take the car away at 10:50 a.m. and all lanes were re-opened as of 11:50 a.m.
The owner of the car, Kelton Styles, is at University Hospital as of 3 p.m. being checked for injuries from the incident.
He told us that he was driving down Washington Road when his car made a concerning noise. He got out to pop the hood when it exploded on his face and chest. He immediately tried to recover and direct people on the three-lane road away from the car.
Richmond County had arrived when exploded more than twice after Styles had walked away, according to Styles.
