Firefighters extinguished a train on fire in the City of Redding on Thursday.
According to officials with the Redding Fire Department (RFD), their firefighters received a report just after 2:30 p.m. regarding a train on fire near Court and Placer streets. The train continued to travel further south on the tracks before Union Pacific Railroad officials were notified and stopped the train near the Highway 273 overpass near Eastside Rd.
The RFD said their firefighters responded to the scene and found the train on fire just south of the highway overpass. Crews were able to quickly make access and contain the fire to the motor area.
All roads in the area, including Wyndham Ln., Buenaventura Blvd. and Eastside Rd., were temporarily shut down while crews worked to extinguish the fire. By 3:20 p.m., all roadways had reopened.
The RFD says their Fire Investigators responded to the scene and area investigating the cause of the fire.
