A dump truck, tractor and several other expensive pieces of farm equipment were destroyed in a large fire on Grayson Springs Road.

Saturday night at approximately 10:45, the Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments and EMS responded to a large barn fire in the 700 block of Grayson Springs Road. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a spacious barn fully engulfed in flames.

Complicating firefighters’ efforts were at least three explosions, caused by oxygen tanks and acetylene torches, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall. The barn also contained woodworking tools, saws, and the aforementioned dump truck and tractor along with other equipment. All were lost to the fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours, containing the flames to the structure.

The cause of the fire was likely “electrical issues,” as the blaze appears to have started near the electrical panel box, Duvall said.

No injuries were reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 12:40 Sunday morning.

The Leitchfield Police Department assisted at the scene.
