Whelan told deputies Morgan was very intoxicated on the boat, but attempted to sober up after arriving back to the home around 6 p.m. Whelan said he and a friend continued to drink while Morgan and a friend made dinner.

After the two guests went to bed around 2 a.m. on Monday, Whelan and Morgan got into the pool. Whelan admitted to drinking Vodka and Sprite while Morgan drank Corona Light beers, according to the report. Whelan then passed out on the stairs of the pool around 3:30 a.m. When he woke up three hours later, he searched for Morgan, eventually finding her at the bottom of the deep end of the pool.
