Medical issue led to crash that killed central Pa. driver: coroner

A 77-year-old man died in a car crash in York County on Thursday, according to the coroner’s office.

The man, who was not identified by officials, was driving north on Penn Street in Windsor Borough just before noon, the York County Coroner’s Office said.

Investigators believe the man suffered some kind of “medical event” as he was driving through a curve and lost control of his vehicle, the coroner’s office said. The vehicle crashed into a telephone pole, causing the airbags to deploy and extensive damage to the passenger side.

The coroner’s office said the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

There will be no autopsy, but the coroner said the man died from multiple blunt-force trauma injuries caused in the crash. She has ruled the death accidental, due to the crash likely being caused by a medical issue.

The man’s name will be released on Friday, the coroner’s office said.
