Natchitoches police mourn loss of one of their own

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) - A Natchitoches Police Department (NPD) officer died from a sudden medical event while on the job.

On July 17, with saddened hearts, the Natchitoches Police Department announced that while working in the downtown district of Natchitoches, Officer Brian Olliff died. Olliff reportedly had an unexpected heat-related medical event that ultimately led to his death.

Olliff was a veteran officer who dedicated 20-plus years of service to the Natchitoches community. NPD asks that the public keep Olliff’s family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.

Below are the funeral arrangements for Officer Brian Olliff who passed away Saturday evening from an unexpected heat related medical event while working in the downtown district.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, 848 Keyser Ave. in Natchitoches.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, at First Baptist Church, 508 Second St. in Natchitoches. Procession to Memory Lawn Cemetery will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

FUNERAL PROCESSION

The procession will begin following the funeral service. Procession route:

  • Leaving First Baptist Church and heading south on Second Street toward Amulet Street
  • Turning west on to Amulet Street and heading toward Fifth Street
  • Pausing briefly in front of the Natchitoches Police Department
  • Turning north on to Fifth Street toward Texas Street
  • Turning east on Texas Street toward Washington Street
  • Turning north on Washington Street and traveling to Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 block of Washington Street

The public is invited to line the processional route to show support for Officer Olliff and his family.
