TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A camper trailer and shed caught fire behind a home near downtown Topeka, sending a thick plume of smoke into the air Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out just after 6 p.m. at 1525 SE Quincy.

Fire officials say the fire started in the area of a backyard shed, then spread to the camper trailer. Both were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Fire officials say heat from the fire damaged the exterior of the house, but it did not actually catch fire. They say popping sounds and flashes were likely associated with several lawnmowers in the area of the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
