A male body recovered from a pond in Pontiac on Thursday has been identified as that of Ryan Patrick Pitts based on fingerprints, according to Oakland County Sheriff’s officials.

Pitts was reported missing by his family in January. The cause and manner of his death are pending results of an autopsy conducted Friday at the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A Flint man, 63, and his son, 39, from Pontiac, discovered the body in Harris Lake near North Saginaw and East Montcalm shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office said. The two men had been mowing a lawn in the area and went to the lake in search of a good fishing spot, the sheriff’s office said. They alerted a sheriff’s deputy in the area who was handling a traffic crash, saying they thought they saw a body in the lake.
