Burned body found in vehicle fire at Stellantis Plant in Sterling Heights

Authorities in Sterling Heights made a grim discovery Tuesday evening after police responding to a vehicle fire found a burned body inside.

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Authorities in Sterling Heights made a grim discovery Tuesday evening after police responding to a vehicle fire found a burned body inside.

Sterling Heights police said they were called out to the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant on VanDyke Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday where a vehicle was ablaze.

While working the scene, police discovered a deceased male among the flames inside the vehicle.

Lt. Mario Bastianelli of the Sterling Heights Police Department said at this time, they are unsure of the man's identity and if he is an employee at the Stellantis plant. Bastianelli also said it is unclear if the man's death was accidental or possibly a suicide.

The incidents remains under investigation with the Sterling Heights Investigations Bureau.
