Pompey, N.Y. — The body of a 26-year-old man who had been missing since Monday afternoon was found at the bottom of a pond in Pompey, deputies said.
A massive search began for Eddy O. Cifuentes-Hernandez, of Pompey, after a call was made at 9:44 p.m. Monday to the Onondaga County 911 Center to report he was missing, according to 911 center dispatches.
The man went out to a pond Monday afternoon at 8770 Number 4 Road East in Pompey and hadn’t been seen since, according to the dispatches.
Cifuentes-Hernandez was found dead at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recovery Team, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The investigation is ongoing and the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Officer.
Cifuentes-Hernandez, who works at the farm across the street from the pond, was last seen by his coworkers near the pond at about 3 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Jon Seeber, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies are unsure if Cifuentes-Hernandez wandered off or entered the water on his own, they said.
State police and several rescue crews were called in to help with a large-scale search Monday night.
In addition to an extensive ground search, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Air 1 helicopter’s infrared technology was used in the search, deputies said.
The man-made pond is a part of the property owned by the farm where Cifuentes-Hernandez works, Seeber said.
The property is owned by John and Patrick Frazee of Pompey, according to county records.
